Proposed 2012 Election Calendar

Proposed 2012 Election Calendar

The State Legislature has passed SB189, which changes the primary election date from

August to Tuesday, June 26, 2011.  The bill is awaiting the Governor’s signature and the

expectation is that SB 189 will be law by the end of the week.

Below is the proposed 2012 election calendar, which is subject to change based on the

official publication by the Secretary of State. We wanted to give you as much time in

advance to these date changes as possible.

March 6, 2011:  Caucus (this is changed from March 20)

March 15, 2011:  All application for Delegates to the National Convention must be

provided to the State Party no later than 5:00pm on March 15, 2011

March 21, 2011:  List of delegates will be provided to the representative (s) of the

Presidential candidate (s)

March 28, 2011:  Presidential candidate representatives advised the State Party of

approved list of delegate nominees.

March 31, 2011:  The last date that County Parties can hold their County

Assembly/Convention.  The Counties have 25 days from March 6 to hold the meetings.

(This eliminates the law that required Assemblies/Convention not be held in less than 10

days or more than 30 days after caucus)

April 1-13, 2011:  Congressional Assemblies/Conventions can be held during this period

of time.

April 14, 2011:  Last date for the State Assembly/Convention with a location to be

determined.

April 21, 2011:  Meeting of the National Convention delegates and alternates (location to

be determined) to elect Delegation Chair, approve Standing Committee members and

Convention Pages.

April 24, 2011:  Confirmation of all delegates/alternates/standing committee

members/convention pages provided to DNC by the State Party Chair

September 3-6: 2012 National Convention in Charlotte North Carolina
